Genius Mushrooms is a popular mushroom nootropic brain supplement produced by the Genius brand. It is made using only natural, organic ingredients. It is designed to naturally improve your cognitive function and health, mental clarity, immune function, and energy levels while providing select other benefits.

However, while its single formula contains three organic mushrooms proven to work, it appears that its popularity is largely down to its low price rather than the effects it can produce

Pros

  • It is a very reasonably priced nootropic brain supplement.
  • It contains enough Lion’s mane mushrooms to boost energy levels naturally and offer benefits like improved mood, mental clarity, immune function, and brain health.
  • It only contains three organic mushrooms from the most researched mycological species and no artificial flavors.

Cons

  • Reishi mushroom extract and cordyceps sinensis extract are present in doses that are far too low to provide significant brain or immune system support.
  • Some people have reported experiencing side effects or allergic reactions while using Genius Mushrooms.
  • There have been complaints about the serving size and the quality of the capsules the Genius brand has selected.
  • Made in a facility that may also process milk, soy, wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish.

Quick Verdict

Genius Mushrooms Ingredients

While the Genius brand makes brain and immune support supplements like Genius Joy and Genius Consciousness, which use various ingredients, Genius Mushrooms uses a single formula containing only three organic mushrooms, all of which have been extensively researched.

Organic Cordyceps Mushroom Extract – 500 mg

Cordyceps sinensis is a type of parasitic fungus found across Asia. It has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine due to its incredible range of physical and cognitive benefits.

The brain-boosting benefits of cordyceps mushrooms include improving mental clarity, preventing cognitive decline, enhancing brain cell growth, and combatting headaches.

They can also combat inflammation, certain diseases, and the signs of aging, boost heart health, physical performance, athletic endurance, and natural energy levels, enhance testicle function, and help treat coughs, diabetes, diarrhea, liver and kidney diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and tumors.

The problem is that clinical research shows that at least 1,000 mg of Cordyceps sinensis extract must be taken each day for it to produce any of these effects [1]. This means the 500 mg of Cordyceps sinensis extract present in each serving of Genius Mushrooms is unlikely to be of any real use.

Organic Reishi Mushroom Extract – 500 mg

The Reishi mushroom is a polypore fungus from the Ganoderma family mainly found in East Asia.

Long used in traditional Chinese medicine, reishi mushroom extract has begun to be used in medicines in Japan and Korea, too. It has also become a popular ingredient in Western dietary supplements.

Reishi extract is widely touted to naturally enhance mental clarity, immune function and health, and energy levels.

Its other benefits include providing stress relief and liver support, promoting an improved mood, and combatting high blood sugar levels, metabolic syndrome, and other chronic illnesses.

Unfortunately, the daily dose of Reishi mushroom extract required to produce this effect is 1.44 grams [2].

As the Genius brand only includes 500 mg of Reishi mushroom extract in every serving of Genius Mushrooms, it is simply too weak to produce the brain-boosting benefits that it is usually capable of.

Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom Extract – 500 mg

Lion’s mane mushrooms are a tooth fungus that is very popular in culinary and medical circles due to their distinctive taste and texture and the wide range of health benefits they can offer.

They are also the most extensively researched and proven medicinal mushroom species on Earth.

The brain-boosting benefits of Lion’s mane mushrooms include supporting brain health and function, boosting cognitive performance, brain cell growth, and blood flow to the brain cells, combating mild cognitive impairment and mental decline, and providing concentration, focus, and memory support.

There are several physical benefits produced by Lion’s mane mushrooms, too.

For example, it helps to boost immune function and nerve growth factor, reduce inflammation, improve aerobic capacity and athletic endurance, and aid in increased oxygen utilization, ATP production, and energy levels naturally.

Lion’s mane mushroom extract is also the only one of the three mushrooms in Genius Mushrooms present in a dosage high enough to produce its full effects [3].

This means the Genius brand brain supplement can produce all the benefits the Lion’s mane mushroom can offer.

Who Is Genius Mushrooms For?

People Looking To Improve Cognitive Performance

Like any natural nootropic supplement, Genius Mushrooms’ primary purpose is to help people stay mentally healthy.

The Genius brand claims its brain supplement can enhance mental clarity, focus, and concentration, improve mood and overall cognitive function, provide stress relief, protect brain cells, and prevent issues like mental decline.

Anyone Seeking Immune System Support

As is common with a natural nootropic made from mushrooms, while it is best known as a brain supplement, it can also double up as an immune booster.

The Genius brand claims Genius Mushrooms can provide good immune support, which can lead to a better-functioning immune system, help increase oxygen utilization and ATP production, ensure you stay healthy, and even potentially act as a detoxifying liver cleanse.

My Experience With Genius Mushrooms

When trying Genius Mushrooms for myself, I felt more focused and dialed in during my thinking-heavy tasks, such as writing this review. Most notable was the improved mood, increased energy levels, and athletic endurance I felt.

I felt clearer mentally and able to think quickly. I put this down to the adequately dosed Lions Mane mushroom.

However, most of these benefits were relatively mild and may have been more intense if the other mushrooms were dosed effectively.

Customer Experience With Genius Mushrooms

Genius Mushrooms currently has a 4.3 out of 5-star rating based on reviews by customers who have verified a purchase of the Genius mushroom supplement on Amazon, which makes it appear to be a very good mushroom nootropic supplement on the surface.

The positive reviews of Genius Mushrooms mention that it is very reasonably priced. It can provide a decent degree of anxiety and stress relief while helping improve mood, combat brain fog, support memory, and enhance mental clarity, immune function, and energy levels naturally.

However, a closer analysis reveals that even these positive reviews say the benefits are pretty mild, and their effects could be achieved simply by taking Lion’s mane mushrooms alone.

When looking at the negative reviews of Genius Mushrooms, we encounter issues like it not providing any notable brain or immune support, having large capsules and servings, and causing a few side effects.

Genius Mushrooms Side Effects

I didn’t experience any adverse side effects when taking Genius Mushrooms, but you should always be wary of taking something new.

One of the potential side effects is digestive issues, including nausea, bloating, or diarrhea.

These symptoms may occur if the body has difficulty adjusting to the introduction of mushroom compounds or if the supplement is taken on an empty stomach.

It’s recommended to start with a lower dosage and gradually increase it to assess tolerance.

Individuals have reported allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, itching, or difficulty breathing.

These reactions are more likely to occur in people with mushroom allergies or sensitivities. If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.

Another possible side effect is the interaction with certain medications, particularly those that affect blood clotting or blood sugar levels.

Mushroom supplements may interact with anticoagulant and antidiabetic medications, potentially altering their effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects.

Consult a healthcare professional before taking Genius Mushrooms if you are on any medications.

Nootrum Mushrooms

Nootrum Mushroom Supplement

Nootrum Mushrooms is ranked as our best nootropic mushroom supplement. It contains cordyceps sinensis, Lion’s mane, and Reishi mushrooms in optimal dosages, so it can deliver all the benefits that Genius Mushrooms claims.

It combines them with a good selection of other proven natural ingredients, making it an excellent option for anyone seeking a supplement to increase oxygen utilization, aerobic capacity, ATP production, athletic endurance, and natural energy levels.

MushGooms Gummies

MushGooms Mushroom Gummies

MushGooms Gummies uses the same formula as Nootrum Mushrooms, so it will improve your cognitive function and immune system and help you stay healthy in all the same ways.

While lower dosages of all its ingredients mean it will only be half as potent as Nootrum Mushrooms, being sold in the form of great-tasting gummies means it is a good option for people on a budget. A much lower price tag makes it an even better option for people on a budget than Genius Mushrooms.

Hunter Focus

Hunter Focus Nootropic

Hunter Focus is a different type of brain supplement from those we have already examined. It is quite pricey and contains only a single mushroom, Lion’s mane.

However, it combines this with a long list of ingredients proven to enhance cognitive function, such as ginkgo biloba.

It is a great option for people specifically looking to enhance their cognitive function. Its caffeine content also allows it to improve athletic performance.

You can read an in-depth breakdown in my Hunter Focus review.

Summary

Genius Mushrooms contain three ingredients: cordyceps sinensis, Lion’s mane, and reishi mushrooms, which are proven to support the brain and immune system.

Its low price makes it suitable for those on a tight budget. Unfortunately, it is not a potent mushroom brain supplement or immune booster.
