Tap your opponent with these Honey Hole finishes

Kurt Chase Patrick, BJJ black belt and active competitor for 10th Planet Fairfield shows us some of his favorite finishes from the Honey Hole.

Kurt teaches and trains at Radius Martial Arts, home to 10th Planet Fairfield in Connecticut. A native of the state, Kurt is a veteran of the no gi grappling scene. Affiliated with American Top Team in Danbury, CT, Kurt pursued an MMA career, before coming back to his true calling as a grappler. With multiple IBJJF medal, NAGA and Fuji BJJ titles, Kurt is known as a tough competitor who specialises in leg locks. He recently held BJJ Pan Am black belt champion Alex Oliviera to a tie at the Rise Invitational, streamed on Flo Grappling, and is slated for a super fight in January on Reality Fighting at Mohegan Sun.

Honey Hole

Kurt starts in the half guard knee slice position with his C clamp in and sitting on his opponent Ryan’s leg. He takes a little back step over Ryan’s leg before driving the knee forward into a figure four position with a straight ankle grip on Ryan’s top leg, getting into the Honey Hole.

Here, Kurt is in complete control, preventing the Running Man escape and setting himself up for several finishes.

Straight Ankle Lock

With the bony part of his wrist in Ryan’s achilles tendon, Kurt locks up his hands into a rear naked choke grip and, keeping everything tight, looks away to complete the straight ankle lock.

Texas Clover Leaf

Kurt weaves his control hand over the top leg and under the bottom leg. This can now be finished in two ways: either with a gable grip and driving the forearm into the shin, or by grabbing Ryan’s ankle and his own bicep to turn up the intensity. As this is a pain move, some people have higher tolerance.

Tony Montana

Kurt passes Ryan’s top leg to the other side of his body before knifing his left hand back to the heel and then the right into a gable grip. One hand after the other, so that there is no escape available. The finish works by simply leaning back.

Taza Foot Escape Counter

If Ryan begins the escape from the Honey Hole, Kurt can put in the Taza Foot, pop up onto his head and shoulders, expose the heel, settle down and hip up for a heel hook finish.
