AMERICAN ORIGINAL – THE KICK SHIELD
The Revgear Kick Shield Changed the Game
Born from the mind of Revgear founder Paul Reavlin in 1994, the Kick Shield remains a Krav Maga classic to this day
The Kick Shield may look like many others on the market at first glance, but what is happening on the inside and on the back reveals a story of innovation and creative problem solving that changed the way gear companies approach kick shields.
Back in the mid-1990s, Paul Reavlin was training at Krav Maga Worldwide and using conventional curved kick shields. Every time he held the pads, it felt like someone was going to bust his ribs or cause him an injury. The problem was that the products available at the time were not up to the task at hand. They were not giving people the protection they deserved. He put his mind to creating a Kick Shield that could do the job right.
Much like the Tombstone Pad, the Kick Shield was born from necessity. Inside, the materials used absorb the shock so whoever is holding it doesn’t have to. The pad holder gets pushed back a little more than with a conventionally padded shield, but they aren’t the shock absorber taking the punishment.
The next thing that sets the Revgear Kick Shield apart from the competition is that it was the first to have handles in the positions they are in. At the time Paul invented it, there was no shield with handles in several positions allowing the pad to be used in various alignments for different strikes. Handles on both ends mean that it is easy to switch the position of the Kick Shield for round kicks to either side of the body.
The real innovation came in the form of the diagonal central handle system. The handle has elastic and hard wearing handles aligned in such a way as the holder can hold it close to their body in the most natural way. Even the stitching of the handle is designed so the seams don’t hurt the hands.
Other companies have copied the design of the Revgear Kick Shield, but the quality of the original product is unbeatable. Made in the USA since the beginning and it always will be. There is no substitute for the Revgear Kick Shield.
