My Experience Taking Cowabunga Colostrum (2025 Review)

Of course, colostrum is one of the hottest supplements right now, and for good reason. It has a host of immune health benefits, along with energy-boosting, anti-aging, and even skin benefits.

Cowabunga Colostrum positions itself as a fun and natural entry into the world of colostrum supplements, but does it actually deliver? Over the past year, I’ve tested various colostrum products to find the best options on the market.

Unfortunately, Cowabunga Colostrum doesn’t make the cut. While it may serve as an introductory product, it falls short in multiple areas, from potency to overall effectiveness.

Pros

  • Mild Taste: The supplement has a mild taste and is more neutral than other colostrum powders.
  • Good Mixability: Sunflower lecithin improves colostrum powder dissolution, however others may like the earthy flavor.

Cons

  • Overpriced: Cowabunga Colostrum is ridiculously expensive for the amount of colostrum you receive.
  • Unclear Ingredient Quantities: The main issue with this product is a lack of transparency. It does not mention the amount of essential active chemicals, such as immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, or growth factors, in the product, making it impossible to determine whether you are receiving an adequate dose.
  • Small Serving Size: The serving amount is shown as 1.5g; however, it should be closer to 5g for any significant impact. Without standardization, you’d need a considerably bigger serving to get the benefits that other colostrum products provide.

Quick Verdict

What Is Cowabunga Colostrum?

Cowabunga Colostrum is a supplement derived from the nutrient-rich “first milk” cows produce shortly after giving birth. This initial milk is abundant in immune factors, growth hormones, and other bioactive compounds known to support immunity, gut health, and muscle recovery.

Produced by SonoHealth, Cowabunga Colostrum is sourced exclusively from Grade A dairy farms in Wisconsin, USA.

The company emphasizes ethical practices by adhering to a “Calf First, Quality Next” principle, ensuring that newborn calves receive essential nutrients before collecting the remaining colostrum.

This approach guarantees that the colostrum is rich in vital bioactives. SonoHealth maintains the purity of their colostrum by avoiding heavy processing, which helps preserve its natural components. The product is also Kosher and Halal certified, catering to a diverse range of dietary preferences.

However, Cowabunga’s formulation does not contain sufficient levels of beneficial compounds to produce noticeable effects, as I will explain more in-depth in the following sections.

Cowabunga Colostrum Ingredients

Colostrum is praised for its high concentration of immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, growth hormones, and proline-rich polypeptides.

These substances are necessary to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and promote muscle and skin health.

However, Cowabunga Colostrum does not reveal the concentrations of any of these components, which is a major red flag.

Without standardization, you are essentially guessing how much of the crucial nutrients you are receiving.

The normal dose for an effective immune boost is approximately 5g of unstandardized colostrum. If we treat cowabunga as a 30-day supply, it will deliver around 4g, meaning that you will most likely get some benefit from their colostrum powder.

However, you are still not getting the other benefits that you would expect from a colostrum supplement. Cowabunga only supplies 1.5g per serving, which is insufficient to get the desired effect.

Cowabunga Colostrum Price

  • 120g (80 Servings): $59.99 ($0.75 per serving) – it’s actually more like 30, so the actual price is $2 per serving

For the price, it does not provide nearly as much value as rival products on the market. Other colostrum supplements that cost the same or less offer better standardization, transparency, and larger concentrations of essential active components.

Cowabunga Colostrum Benefits

While Cowabunga claims to offer immune support, gut health benefits, and even muscle recovery, you’ll only get the immune health benefits IF you adjust the serving.

Immune Support

Colostrum is well-known for improving the immune system, particularly through immunoglobulins and lactoferrin. If you adapt the Cowabunga dose as I recommend, there should be enough for at least the immunoglobulins, but you still won’t get enough lactoferrin.

Gut Health

Colostrum contains proline-rich polypeptides, which have been related to enhanced gut function and reduced inflammation. Unfortunately, without standardization, you can’t tell if Cowabunga has enough of these substances to aid digestion or gut health.

Certain beneficial components may be present in the colostrum supplement, but overall, it is unlikely that you’ll improve your gut health with Cowabunga.

Muscle Recovery & Skin Health

Growth factors in colostrum are essential for muscle repair and skin health. However, as previously stated, the lack of transparency regarding the level of these compounds in Cowabunga’s recipe implies that it cannot be relied on to provide significant recovery or skin benefits.

Now, there are some advertising limits around this, so we could give Cowabunga the benefit of the doubt, but since you’d generally need several pints to get the hair growth, skin health benefits, and so on, there is no chance that you’re getting enough with this supplement.

Who Is Cowabunga Colostrum For?

Honestly, Cowabunga Colostrum doesn’t seem to be for anyone serious about colostrum supplementation. If you’re new to colostrum and don’t mind using an under-dosed product just to give it a try, this may work for you, but there are better options out there.

I’d recommend looking elsewhere if you’re looking for a supplement with clear and measurable benefits.

However, there are still some individuals who might find value in Cowabunga Colostrum.

Casual Wellness Enthusiasts

If you’re someone who enjoys experimenting with supplements in a low-stakes way and prefers a more laid-back approach to wellness, Cowabunga might fit your lifestyle. While it’s not the most potent colostrum on the market, it could still serve as a mild, introductory option.

Budget-Conscious Consumers

For those who are interested in colostrum but don’t want to commit to a premium-priced supplement, Cowabunga may be an accessible entry point. Though it lacks high-standardized potency, it offers a relatively inexpensive way to test out colostrum without breaking the bank.

Fans of Natural and Minimalist Supplements

Cowabunga markets itself as a simple, minimally processed product. If you’re drawn to supplements with a more natural branding and aren’t overly concerned about dosage strength or clinical standardization, this may align with your preferences.

My Experience Taking Cowabunga Colostrum

Cowabunga has a couple of poor practices. The first is the serving size, which is a cheap trick to make it appear that you’re getting more days’ worth for your money.

By having a low serving of normal bovine colostrum powder, you’re not getting enough of the beneficial compounds that give it its benefits.

Because Cowabunga is not standardized for these compounds, you may not be getting exactly what you want.

The recommended serving is 1.5g, and the company claims a single pack to have 80 servings, which is a little strange. If you divided the contents into 30 servings (as most manufacturers do), you’d get 4 grams, which is still a little low for non-standardized bovine colostrum powder.

I tried Cowabunga Colostrum for about a month, following both their recommended dose and what I suspect to be the original, more effective dosing of 4 grams per day. Unsurprisingly, the standard dose provided no noticeable benefits.

Assessing immune health through supplementation is challenging due to numerous variables, but I paid close attention to my digestion. Unfortunately, I didn’t experience any significant improvements in gut health either.

The taste was tolerable, though it had a distinct earthy flavor and mixed reasonably well. However, in terms of results, there was little to report. I didn’t feel more energized, my immunity didn’t seem stronger, and I noticed no enhancements in muscle recovery.

Customer Cowabunga Colostrum Reviews

Customer feedback on Cowabunga Colostrum is mixed. While some users report minimal benefits, others appreciate its taste and use it as an entry-level supplement. However, some reviews appear questionable.

One Amazon reviewer, who previously used Miracle Moo, praised Cowabunga for its sourcing and production. They highlighted that Cowabunga is collected within six hours post-birth in Wisconsin, ensuring high nutrient content.

The reviewer also noted its rich yellow color, indicating quality and nutrient density. However, they mentioned that the high-fat content affects mixability, though they found the taste pleasant.

It’s important to approach such reviews critically, as individual experiences vary, and some feedback may and likely is biased or incentivized.

Cowabunga Colostrum Side Effects

Overall, colostrum is well tolerated. However, some people may experience some digestive discomfort when they initially begin taking it, particularly at higher doses. It’s recommended that they begin with a modest dose and gradually increase it.

If you have any underlying health disorders connected to iron metabolism or stomach issues, you should visit a healthcare practitioner before beginning colostrum supplementation.

Cowabunga Colostrum Alternatives

Nootrum Colostrum

If you want a colostrum supplement that actually delivers, Nootrum is my top recommendation. Unlike Cowabunga, it’s fully standardized, ensuring you get full doses of all active compounds, including immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, and growth factors.

This leads to more tangible benefits, from improved immune function to enhanced muscle recovery. Nootrum is also third-party tested for purity, making it a more reliable choice for those serious about supplementation.

The price is reasonable for the quality, making it one of the best options on the market.

Probiotic-Enhanced Colostrum

For those looking for added digestive benefits, probiotic-enhanced colostrum supplements offer a great alternative.

These products combine colostrum with gut-supporting probiotics, which can provide additional immune benefits while also promoting better digestion and gut health.

Brands like Symbiotics and Hyperbiotics offer colostrum blends that support microbiome balance, making them ideal for those prone to digestive discomfort or looking for a more comprehensive gut health solution.

Pur Colostrum

Another excellent alternative is Pur Colostrum, which offers a higher standard of colostrum without the marketing gimmicks.

This supplement is sourced from high-quality dairy farms and undergoes minimal processing to preserve its bioactive compounds.

Unlike Cowabunga, Pur Colostrum provides a more reliable and potent dose, ensuring users receive the full spectrum of colostrum’s benefits, from enhanced immunity to improved recovery.

It’s also cost-effective compared to many premium brands, making it a solid choice for those seeking both quality and affordability.

Frequently Asked Cowabunga Colostrum Questions

How do I take Cowabunga Colostrum?

Dissolve the recommended serving (1.5g) in water or your favorite beverage. If you’re looking for more pronounced effects, gradually increase the dose.

How should I store Cowabunga Colostrum?

Store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight to maintain its potency.

Can I take Cowabunga Colostrum with other supplements or medications?

As with any supplement, it’s a good idea to consult a healthcare professional before combining it with other medications or supplements.

How long does it take to see results from Cowabunga Colostrum?

Results can vary, but many users report not noticing significant benefits, especially since the product is under-dosed. Expect minimal effects unless you increase the serving size significantly.

Summary

Overall, Cowabunga Colostrum powder is a below-average product. It’s pricey for the quantity and uses deceptive marketing tactics to portray itself as a better deal than it is. At this price point, it lacks standardization, making it inefficient in providing the full benefits of colostrum.

Most colostrum powders in this price range will contain at least one or two of the major compounds in effective doses, if not all four, like my favorite brand.

If you want to invest in a supplement that genuinely works, I recommend checking out Nootrum, which provides complete transparency and standardization for the best results. Cowabunga isn’t terrible, but it’s certainly very far from the best option available.
