John Combs Takes on the Best in the World at the ADCC 2019 Worlds

All-American athlete John Combs looks to take home the biggest prize in world grappling in the 77kg division at the ADCC 2019 World Championships.

Based in Denver at Easton Training Academy, John Combs grew up in California, where he was a competitive wrestler. John started wrestling aged 14 in the 130 lbs division, finishing his junior college career at 165 lbs. During this period John Combs placed 4th in the 20111 NCWA Nationals making him an All-American Wrestler.

John trained in Jiu Jitsu during his wrestling career, but began focussing on the sport while he was at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he found Easton Training Academy.

John has been a high-level grappler for a long time, but his dream of greatness may now be coming to fruition at the ADCC 2019 World Championships. John’s road to the championships has seen him win several events at black belt including the UAEJJF Grand Slam No-Gi 2016, IBJJF Austin Open 2017 and the the IBJJF Denver Open 2018 in both his own and the absolute divisions. This journey culminated in him taking first place at the ADCC 2019 US West Coast Trials, the victory that opened the door to the finals.

The ADCC 2019 World Championships will be the greatest challenge of John’s career. The 77kg division is highly competitive, with some of the biggest names in world grappling falling within it. John will be fighting against the likes of Vagner Rocha, DJ Jackson, JT Torres, Celso Vinicius, Dante Leon, Edwin Najmi, Oliver Taza, Lucas Lepri, Renato Canuto and Garry Tonon. The road to glory is strewn with tough battles, but if anyone can overcome them, life-long grappler John Combs is that one.

No matter what happens at the ADCC 2019 World Championships, one thing is certain: the world will be watching as the best grapplers on the planet leave everything on the mat to finish on the top of the heap.
