MMA TUTORIALS: COUNTER THE JAB

Mixed Martial Arts use of distance has always been crucial during the standup phase of the fight and a common issue when fighters come from a different base such as Muay Thai. Fighters still look to count or evade, in the way a standup fighter would, without considering the range of attacks they might face from their opponent. Shinobi Academies Colin Byrne demonstrates an evasive step to overhand right counter attack to the jab, commonly used by his training partners from SBGi. You may well recognize the movement style if you watch Conor McGregors UFC fights.
Colin uses a body shift to a stance switch in order to evade his opponents attack and then counter, using an overhand right as he switches stance.
