ARNOLD ALLEN MMA TUTORIAL PT1

While visiting his home in Colchester England, our UK fight aficionado Alex Wright, caught up with UFC star Arnold Allen at his original team gym BKK fighters.

Arnold, at only 23 years old, is one of the most technical fighters in his UFC featherweight division and now training much of the year in Montreal under the watchful eye of legendary TriStar head coach Firas Zihabi.

At TriStar, Arnold is adding new layers to his game as he showed in early 2017 with his fantastic display of how to beat a world class wrestler in Makwan Amirkhani. While Arnold openly admits the plan going in to the fight didn’t quite come off, no one could say the performance in London was not up to scratch. Arnold Allen showed why he’s hotly tipped to become one of the stars of the featherweight division.

In this series of exclusive MMA Tutorials, Arnold shows some of the techniques he trained at TriStar to overcome the excellent wrestling of Amirkhani. During his preparation, the team looked at how Makwan Amirkhani had demolished fighters such as Mike Wilkinson in earlier bouts and worked to establish counter techniques.

Anyone involved in Mixed Martial Arts knows that one of the main battles in fighting a good wrestler is to keep the fight where you want it. For Arnold, who’s an highly proficient grappler, is still predominantly a striker. This was his goal, to remain on his feet!

“I was expecting everything he threw at me,” Allen said. “He started with the jumping knee, and I was expecting that. I’ve been working on my submission attempts, though, with my team. My coaches helped me and were a big part of this win. It means everything for me to win in front of my home crowd and this is the arena I wanted to fight in. It was my dream to fight here on the main card. One day I will be back here and I will be the main event.”
