THE ULTIMATE SPARRING GLOVE
The Ultimate Sparring Glove
The moment I put on a Revgear S3, in England several months ago, I realised that I had the ultimate sparring glove on my hand. Perfect for any gloved combat sport, the S3 is designed with athletes in mind. Whether amateur or pro, the S3 has what you are looking for in a training glove. It was just what I needed after years of dealing with expensive products that quite didn’t fit my needs.
The ultimate sparring glove is quite a claim, but the S3 fits that epithet. The velcro makes it easy to take on and off during training, like any other glove of its type, but the similarity stops there. The first thing I noticed was that the shape of it was different from other gloves. I actually tried on a 14oz glove, but because of the distribution of weight, it felt lighter. So with the same weight of padding and protection, I felt like I had lighter hands.
One of the key parts of the design for me was the inside padding. Being used to Thai gloves, I was instantly aware of the inside wrist padding that went down the full length of the glove. With classic Thai gloves, the padding only goes as far as the velcro strap, which is not a problem for many people, but I really felt my wrist was fully supported, so I could throw punches with more power and confidence. It was like having the support of a lace-up glove, but with the convenience of velcro.
One of the other huge factors that made this the ultimate sparring glove for me, was the shape of the fist I could make inside it. A lot of gloves are fatally flawed in design terms, as you can’t make a full fist. You end up with your hand in a somewhat awkward position and run the risk of breaking bones, particularly those fragile metacarpals. By allowing you to make a fist correctly, the S3 adds yet another layer of comfort and protection.
While I am not a pro fighter, I am a keen, seasoned amateur of the striking arts. I have gone through several gloves over the years and most out there do not give you the protection your hand needs at a reasonable price point. Sure, you can spend several hundred dollars on gloves and hopefully get something that does the job right, but with the S3, the ultimate sparring glove, the you can get quality, comfort and protection without breaking the bank.
