Scott is the only third degree Blackbelt in the 10th planet Jiu Jitsu system under Eddie Bravo. The ever-growing system was developed by founder Bravo as a no gi method that is ideal for MMA. Scott is the founder and head coach of 10th Planet West LA, one of the main 10th Planet locations. He has been grappling for around 20 years and had a brief professional MMA career in which he won all his fights by submission. Scott has had a meteoric high-level professional grappling career, with multiple wins at top tournaments. He was Chuck Liddell’s Jiu Jitsu and strength coach, as well as the Jiu Jitsu coach for team Liddell on Ultimate Fighter season 11.
Here, Scott demonstrates breaking grips over under.
When you have your opponent’s back with an over under grip, they are going to try and pull your grip away. You turn your left hand down and grab your opponent’s left wrist. Then push your left wrist with your right hand and peel your opponent’s left arm down. Then wrap your right arm around your opponent’s neck, making sure the hand goes over their shoulder. Slide the left arm out, and put your right hand over the bicep to set up the rear naked choke. Remember to use the back of the left hand behind your opponent’s head, grab your own shoulder, push your head in and squeeze to complete the submission. Breaking the grips also allows for a one arm choke.
