The concept of the #IAMREVGEAR video series, is to tell the story of the athletes, coaches, students, managers and all the many people who train using the famous American brand, through the eyes of the subject themselves, giving an insight to their lives and what training, working and fighting in combat sports means to them.
THE BOXER focuses on English Boxing prospect Joseph “The Benwell Bomber” Laws. Raised on the tough streets of industrial Northern City Newcastle Upon Tyne, Laws follows in his grandfather and father’s footsteps into the tough world of amateur boxing, with dreams of the 2020 Olympic Games followed by a move to the professional sport.
At 22 years old Joey has won almost every title available to him at 69kg: 6 time regional champion, AIBA junior novice champion, AIBA National Junior Semi Finalist, and now current senior elite English champion. He’s represented his country as a senior multiple times and was the first Englishman to win the senior title outright successfully defending it three consecutive times.
Having travelled and competed to America beating the Chicago State champion in 2015, to training at the famous Mayweather Gym in Las Vegas, the young man’s hopes and dreams are firmly in breaking through in the professional game.
However with Joey Laws holding a coveted place on the English senior boxing squad, his turn to professional may have to wait till after the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
