Mushroom coffee has quickly grown from a niche trend to a popular choice for health-conscious coffee lovers seeking a balanced, functional beverage.

Combining the bold flavor of coffee with the wellness benefits of functional mushrooms, these products promise everything from enhanced focus to immune support.

Among the many brands on the market, Shroomi has carved out its place as a sustainable, organic option offering blends with Lion’s Mane, Chaga, and Reishi mushrooms.

In this review, I’ll dive into the details of Shroomi, from its flavor and functionality to its pros and cons. I’ll also compare it to some noteworthy alternatives to help you decide if Shroomi deserves a spot in your morning routine or if another brand might better suit your needs.

Whether you’re new to mushroom coffee or a seasoned enthusiast, this article will give you a clear, honest perspective on what Shroomi has to offer.

Pros

  • Good Taste: I tried two of Shroomi’s blends, the half-caff and the medium roast, and both tasted excellent.
  • Affordable: Shroomi has a very fair price for its qualities and benefits
  • Organic and non-GMO: Shroomi is certified organic and contains no genetically modified organisms.

Cons

  • Only Beta Glucans: The product contains mostly beta-glucans, so advertising specific mushroom benefits is a bit misleading.

Quick Verdict

What Are Shroomi Drinks?

Shroomi creates functional, organic mushroom-inspired foods and beverages. While I am focusing on the coffee, they also have greens and juices available. The company, situated in Santa Barbara, California, wants to increase public awareness about the benefits of mushrooms and promote mental wellness.

Shroomi’s products are all certified organic and intended to improve mental clarity and immunity. They are fair trade and employ the same blend of Chaga, Reishi, and Lion’s Mane across different coffee blends.

Shroomi Coffee Ingredients

While Shroomi Coffee has a decent beta-glucan profile and can help with immune support, the blend’s typical 1,000mg serving size leaves little room for the unique compounds—such as erinacines in Lion’s Mane or triterpenoids in Reishi—so there’s no likelihood of the product delivering a beneficial amount.

Lion’s Mane (43.2% of Beta Glucans Content)

Lion’s Mane is known for its cognitive health benefits, which are derived from two distinct compounds, erinacines and hericenones.

There is some difference between the two, and in human trials, erinacines appear to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier more effectively, making them the best option.

Interestingly, they are derived from the mushroom’s mycelium, which is traditionally considered the least beneficial component in terms of health benefits.

The issue with Shroomi is that with 1,000mg divided among three mushrooms, the actual amount of Lion’s Mane is far below what you’d need to get enough erinacines; you’d need grams and grams of mycelium, which is generally much lower than 42% beta-glucans, so the extract in Shroomi isn’t what you’d look for in a lion’s mane supplement.

Reishi (52.5% of Beta Glucans Content)

The situation with Reishi in Shroomi is the same as with Lion’s Mane. Reishi is widely used for its adaptogenic qualities, which help the body handle stress, boost immunological health, and reduce inflammation. However, these benefits are often linked to triterpenoids and polysaccharides.

While the beta-glucan level is adequate, the serving size limits the amount of beneficial triterpenoids, lowering the full potential of Reishi’s effects.

Chaga (10.8% of Beta Glucans Content)

Chaga is primarily used for its antioxidant content. However, based on the mix size, it would have to be around 50% Chaga, and given the high cost of such an extract, it appears unlikely for the proper amount to be in Shroomi.

Shroomi Coffee Benefits

Immune Support

The blend is rich in beta-glucans, this is the bit Shroomi gets right. Beta-glucans enhance immune function by stimulating white blood cells and supporting overall resilience against infections and illnesses.

Each sip of Shroomi delivers the immune-supporting benefits of Chaga mushrooms. Known as a powerhouse of antioxidants, Chaga helps combat oxidative stress and supports overall immune health.

Cognitive Clarity

This drink supports cognitive function and mental clarity thanks to Lion’s Mane, a key ingredient in every Shroomi blend.

Lion’s Mane is renowned for enhancing focus and promoting brain health, making Shroomi a solid choice for those looking to stay sharp and productive throughout the day. Pairing this with coffee creates the perfect synergy for a sustained and focused energy boost.

Even though the Lion’s Mane content is too low for the erinacines that promote nerve regeneration, beta-glucans still provide some mental benefits.

Stress Reduction and Relaxation

Shroomi’s inclusion of Reishi mushrooms adds a calming element to the mix. Known as the “mushroom of immortality,” Reishi helps the body adapt to stress, promoting a sense of calm and balance. Combined with the natural energy from coffee, Shroomi provides the perfect balance of relaxation and alertness.

Shroomi Coffee Side Effects

While Shroomi Coffee is unlikely to cause any severe problems, except for those associated with excessive caffeine consumption, some people do experience moderate side effects depending on their mushroom sensitivity.

Potential negative effects include digestive issues, such as bloating or nausea, particularly for those unaccustomed to functional mushrooms. In rare cases, those with mushroom allergies or sensitivities may have adverse reactions such as skin rashes or itching.

Shroomi Coffee Taste

Shroomi delivers a bold and rich coffee experience that feels familiar yet distinct. The first sip greets you with the deep, robust flavor of freshly brewed coffee, but it’s the subtle undertones that make this drink stand out.

The inclusion of mushrooms like Lion’s Mane, Chaga, and Reishi introduces earthy, slightly nutty notes that give the coffee a unique depth without overpowering its classic taste.

What’s surprising is how balanced the flavor is—there’s no overpowering bitterness, and the earthiness of the mushrooms complements rather than competes with the coffee’s natural profile.

It’s smooth and satisfying and leaves a clean finish, making it enjoyable for both seasoned coffee drinkers and those who prefer a gentler brew.

For those who appreciate variety, Shroomi offers several blends, each with its own flavor nuances. Whether you prefer something bold and strong or a gentler, more mellow cup, there’s a Shroomi blend to suit your palate. Pair it with your favorite milk or enjoy it black—either way, the flavor remains excellent.

Personal Experience with Shroomi

Having tried Shroomi’s range of organic mushroom coffees, I can see why they might appeal to some people, particularly those who prioritize sustainability and organic certifications.

Shroomi does a good job of combining functional mushrooms like Lion’s Mane, Chaga, and Reishi with smooth, rich Arabica beans, resulting in a pleasant, earthy coffee flavor.

The blends are approachable, with the mushrooms adding subtle nutty and earthy undertones that complement the coffee rather than overpower it.

It’s an enjoyable coffee, especially for those seeking a gentle introduction to mushroom-based beverages. I’ve tried the half-caff and the medium roast and enjoyed both.

However, as someone familiar with a wide range of mushroom coffees and supplements, I found Shroomi somewhat underwhelming in terms of functionality.

Their marketing emphasizes the health benefits of the mushrooms, but the actual blend focuses on beta-glucans rather than the specific compounds like erinacines (Lion’s Mane) or triterpenoids (Reishi) that research has shown to provide the most potent benefits.

While you do get a modest brain boost and some immune support, the dosages of these key compounds aren’t enough to deliver the more targeted effects these mushrooms are known for.

On the upside, Shroomi is more affordable than many other mushroom coffee brands, making it a reasonable choice if you’re on a budget or looking for an entry-level option.

Customer Shroomi Reviews

When reviewing user feedback for Shroomi Coffee, I noticed some recurring themes.

In terms of positive Shroomi reviews, customers tend to praise its ability to provide clean, balanced energy and mood-enhancing benefits, which I find a little suspect given that it’s a caffeinated product.

Still, the reviewers may be unaware that “clean” is typically synonymous with caffeine-free in the mushroom space.

Customers commonly praise its pleasant flavor profile and low acidity, making it a better choice for individuals with sensitive stomachs. Which I agree with.

One typical point of praise is its ability to improve mental clarity and concentration without the jitters or crashes associated with normal coffee. However, the mushroom that can do that is cordyceps, and it’s not in the product, so these effects might be a placebo.

Many appreciate the product’s versatility across roast levels, which appeals to a wide range of taste preferences. I must admit that I genuinely enjoyed this as well.

From light to dark roast, customers appreciate Shroomi Coffee’s unique combination of health advantages and flavor alternatives.

However, taste is subjective, and preferences vary greatly—while some people enjoy its smooth flavor, others, such as Mark, found the coffee slightly acidic and not particularly palatable.

Inconsistencies in packaging have also been reported, with one reviewer stating that they purchased a dark roast but received a mild roast instead. This type of issue is likely to be resolved by customer service, and warehouse mix-ups do occur, so I’m not tempted to give a negative score here.

The negative reviews were mostly from people who couldn’t tell the difference between Shroomi and regular coffee, which is understandable given that the only true benefit is immune boosting, which is difficult to detect. You just need to wait a year or so to see if you get the flu less frequently than usual.

Overall, Shroomi Coffee is a promising option for those looking to find the perfect flavor for them.

Shroomi Alternatives

Nootrum Mushroom Coffee

Nootrum Coffee Fusion

Nootrum stands out in the mushroom coffee world for its focus on delivering potent, targeted benefits. Unlike Shroomi, Nootrum standardizes its blends for the bioactive compounds responsible for each mushroom’s unique effects—such as erinacines in Lion’s Mane for cognitive support or triterpenoids in Reishi for stress relief.

This attention to detail ensures you get a full dose of the compounds backed by clinical research. Nootrum’s flavor is smooth and slightly earthy, striking a nice balance for coffee lovers who also appreciate functional benefits.

Compared to Shroomi, it’s more expensive, but the higher cost reflects its more tailored approach to functionality, making it the better option if you’re looking for maximum health benefits in every cup.

Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee

Four Sigmatic Think Organic Mushroom Coffee

Four Sigmatic is one of the most well-known brands in the functional mushroom space, offering a wide variety of mushroom coffee blends.

Their coffee is made with 100% organic Arabica beans, and they include higher doses of functional mushrooms like Lion’s Mane and Chaga in their blends.

Unlike Shroomi, Four Sigmatic emphasizes both flavor and effectiveness, ensuring that each mushroom is present in quantities designed to deliver measurable benefits.

Their taste profile is similar to Shroomi’s—earthy and smooth—but their stronger focus on bioactive compounds makes them a better choice for those seeking a stronger brain boost or immune support.

While Four Sigmatic is also priced higher than Shroomi, the functional value justifies the premium. You can read my experience and breakdown in my Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee review.

RYZE Mushroom Coffee

RYZE Mushroom Coffee

RYZE offers a creamy and slightly sweeter take on mushroom coffee, blending their functional mushrooms with medium-roast coffee and adding MCT oil for an extra energy boost.

Their blend includes six different mushrooms, including Lion’s Mane, Reishi, and Cordyceps, providing a more diverse range of potential benefits compared to Shroomi’s more basic formulation.

RYZE also markets itself as a coffee alternative for people looking to cut down on caffeine while still enjoying mushrooms’ energizing and health-promoting effects. Taste-wise, RYZE is smoother and less bold than Shroomi, which could appeal to those who prefer a lighter coffee experience.

While slightly more expensive than Shroomi, its inclusion of MCT oil and broader mushroom variety makes it a compelling option for those who want more out of their mushroom coffee. My experience and breakdown are in my RYZE Mushroom Coffee review.

Summary

While Shroomi provides a good-tasting and ethically sourced coffee, it doesn’t quite deliver the full functional benefits I’d expect from a mushroom coffee.

For those who want a more potent, targeted approach to functional mushrooms, I’d recommend looking into brands like Nootrum, which focus on delivering standardized doses of the specific compounds tied to the benefits you’re looking for.

That said, if sustainability and affordability are at the top of your priority list, Shroomi is still worth considering.
