F2W 109: Battle of the Big Guys

The Baltimore crowds are in for a great night at F2W 109, as the heavyweights take to the mat on April 20th

The latest Fight 2 Win event comes to Charm City this Friday and promises top flight fights on an exciting card. While the Main and Co Main Events on F2W 109 are middleweight and 155lb respectively, the fights leading up to them have the bigger guys taking to the stage at the UMBC Event Center.

The 200lb Black Belt GI bout between Brad Pearson of Standard BJJ against Tye Murphy of TLI kicks of the 200 lb plus fights, followed by a 205 lb Black Belt Judo match between Vernon Kirk of Team Rubao Caricoa and Keith Barrett of Koa Big Brothers. Next up, is a 205lbs Black Belt GI match with Kenneth Brown of 2nd Gear BJJ tasing on Carlos Eduardo Placido of Team Randori.

The 210lbs Black Belt GI sees 4 time world champion Isaac July Jr of Big Brothers face off against vs Wilfredo Merino of ML Combatives Academy. The last fight before the main events is a Super Heavy Weight Black Belt GI contest between Jeffrey Manalansan of Pedro Sauer/Warrior Martial Arts and Thiago Reinaldo of Gracie Barra.

The heavyweights then make way for the Co Main Event: a 155lbs Black Belt GI match between #2 ranked Jamil Hill of Team Lloyd Irvin and #5 ranked Leonardo Saggioro of Brazilian Top Team. Hill is the 2018 IBJJF World Champion and was the 2017 SPYDER Invitational Champion. Saggioro has an impressive list of accolades including the UAEJJF King of Mats Champion 2018 and runner up in the IBJJF World Championship in 2018, where he lost to Hill on points in the final.

The Main Event of the evening is the Black Belt NOGI Middleweight Title fight between #6 ranked DJ Jackson of Team Lloyd Irvin and Arnaldo Maidana De Oliveira of Checkmat. Jackson’s nicknames “Ram-Man”, “Kimura-Kid” and “Human Honey Badger” tell you everything you need o know about the tough competitor. His list of accolades includes UAEJJF Grand Slam Tokyo Champion 2018, Copa Pódio MW Grand Prix Champion 2017, Grappling Pro WW Champion 2016 and IBJJF World No-Gi Champion 2015 and 2012. His opponent Maidana has an equally impressive record, having taken some high profile scalps throughout his career. His achievements include being IBJJF World No-Gi Champion 2017, IBJJF Pans Championship runner up 2018 and IBJJF American National Champion 2015. The fight promises to be a thriller to end another awesome evening of grappling.
