Setting Up a Powerful Leg Kick Victor Saravia

Victor Saravia of Muay Thai America Gym shows us how to set up the powerful leg kick

Victor “Dynamite” Saravia is one of the most exciting Muay Thai fighters in the USA today. The Lion Fight North American Flyweight title holder, Victor has been rapidly rising through the ranks, entertaining the crowds and sweeping aside the competition with a professional record of 8-2.

Putting in a powerful leg kick on an opponent can be difficult. They are easy to block, as you only need to lift your leg a little to negate the kick, and if you put power into it, your intention to throw it becomes obvious to your opponent.

Here Victor shows us a two kicking techniques and how to set up a powerful leg kick.

You should always set up your kicks with punches. If you go straight in with a kick, your opponent will see it coming and be able to block it with ease. After throwing some punches, start to throw the straight kick to the thigh so you can start to test your opponent’s reactions to the low kick. Then, after setting up with punches, you can throw a powerful leg kick. To get more power into the kick, you will need to step in further and then throw the kick down into your opponent’s thigh, using your hips to create more explosiveness.

This kick can be performed with either leg. If set up correctly, it will be easier to throw a leg kick than a body kick and your opponent will start to find it harder to move around. By switching between the two ways of kicking throughout the fight, you will always be able to gauge when the right time to add power will be. As your opponent starts to feel the effects of the kick, it will be harder for him to block it, as his leg gets heavier and increasingly damaged.
